History
The Department of English was established in 2004. The Department aspires to be a leading center of comparative studies in English by integrating modern and contemporary concepts, skills, and technology. And to attain National and International renown.
Vision
To provide appropriate pedagogies including class size and environments that will lead to student retention and success as well as an increase in the number of majors and minors. To help students ass themselves as professionals as part of a discipline with skills and abilities valuable in the business, teaching, publishing, or post-graduate work. To assure that students encounter creativity crucial to English studies through theatre productions, readings by professional writers, and their own creative and critical production and presentation. To value faculty scholarship and service through greater support for and participation in activities of the profession.
Mission
The overall mission of the English Department is to promote literacy especially the ability to read, write and think critically. This mission includes the fostering of such technological literacy as information retrieval, research, and communication.
Objective
Language training, to build up students listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. To increase students’ knowledge of English and American Literature and broaden their international vision in hopes of nurturing their cultural sensitivity in the humanities. Develop their intellectual, personal and professional abilities. Acquire basic language skills in order to communicate with speakers of the English language. Acquire the linguistic competence necessarily required in various life situations. The department of English fosters the creation of literature as well as the study of it. We have on our faculty a number of writers who have national and international recognition as poets, short story writers, and essayists. We work closely with the creative writers of the province to offer our students unique creative writing courses.
